Why What We Do Works
The #1 reason people develop musculo-skeletal pain that starts off minor but progresses slowly and surely, is that they lack a solid foundation for movement. Muscles that are inhibited (not fully firing) are causing other muscles to compensate and allow that activity/sport to continue until they can’t …. The compensations are not sustainable, and the body experiences pain.
Whether you currently have pain/stiffness or not – getting a full body assessment to determine areas of weakness can prevent future injury/pain and time off the activities you love to do, and keep you active for the long term.
When it comes to muscle and joint pain, most approaches treat the symptom, not the root cause. When you’re in pain, most advice suggests treating the site with ice, massage, stretches and simple exercises. This can provide temporary relief at best. However, the place that hurts is usually the symptom, not the root cause. At Move Well we find and correct muscle inhibitions often the root cause of wear and tear injuries and pain. This approach gives you results that last.
Move Well is a combination of western and Eastern methodology. Once the mechanical pain has been addressed, we need to look at the body through a TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) lens. There are generally other constitutional factors that need to be addressed to ensure that the treatments last and the pain/dysfunction stays at bay. These will also be assessed during treatment.

About Janice
Janice is an TCM practitioner and sport acupuncture instructor who graduated from the Canadian Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Combining her knowledge from a wide range of fields, Janice creates treatment plans tailored to each individual. Utilizing both traditional and western techniques, she treats a wide range of clients and health issues, specializing in musculo-skeletal issues but also including gynecology and digestive disorders.
Prior to receiving an education in Traditional Chinese medicine, Janice worked in various capacities in conventional health care. She was initially trained as a Kinesiologist and worked extensively in spinal rehabilitation. She later received her Masters degree in Health Sciences and worked for Alberta Health Services as an Health promotion educator in schools, hospitals and local communities. During this time, she met health practitioners of different backgrounds and philosophies and it was through these connections that she discovered her passion for Traditional Chinese Medicine.
She found Chinese medicine treated the body as a whole and offered effective treatment methods for patients which were specific to the individual and their symptoms. Through the use of acupuncture, cupping, guasha, herbal medicine, nutrition, exercise and lifestyle modifications she is able to help patients achieve optimal health.
When not practicing Chinese medicine Janice is involved in cross country and track running, as well as mountain biking, hiking and skiing and hopes one day to be able to play pickleball with some degree of proficiency.
